Jermain Defoe spoke highly about Mohamed Salah and how he is having yet another productive season for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
After ten Premier League games, Mohamed Salah has eight goals and four assists to his name. He has scored or assisted in every match this term, except one, and that was the controversial defeat to Spurs.
That was showcased during Liverpool’s comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with Defoe adding that the all-action forward is an ‘athlete’ and his ‘standards are high’, as he told Premier League Productions (29/10/23 at 8:55 pm).
That included the 31-year-old’s ‘unbelievable’ drag back and pass for Liverpool’s second goal, as he put the ball through his opponent’s legs before Darwin Nunez benefited from it all.
Many talk about Mohamed Salah’s ice-cool and ruthless nature in front of goal, but one underrated part of his game is his passing and creativity.
Tottenham academy coach Defoe was blown away by that moment and he thinks that he is ‘so effective’ in the final third.
Mohamed Salah at Liverpool
“Just goal involvements,” said Defoe. “Standards are high. Consistency. He’s an athlete.
“When he gets into these areas (edge of the box). I mean that is unbelievable. The way he drags it back and rolls it through his legs (for Liverpool’s second goal).
“He is so effective in the final third. That’s amazing thing, isn’t it?! That skill. Wow!”

Player of the Season
The likes of James Maddison, who has helped Tottenham to the top of the league after ten games, have been mentioned as a possible Player of the Season so far – Defoe certainly thinks he is.
But it could be argued that Salah is probably top of that list because the £35 million signing (Sky Sports) is making the outrageous look normal.
Over the years, he has set the standards so high and been so consistent that he doesn’t probably get the credit he deserves.
And it has to be noted that if Liverpool want to just challenge for the Premier League title this season, then Salah needs to remain fit because he is going to hit serious numbers.
