Former Rangers defender David Weir has given his take on Football Pass on speculation linking Celtic with Steve Clarke.

Celtic are on the hunt for a permanent manager following the departure of Neil Lennon in February.

John Kennedy is in charge of the Celtic first team until the end of the season.

One of the managers the Hoops have been linked with is Clarke. The 57-year-old is in charge of the Scotland national football team and will lead them to the European Championship in the summer of 2021.

According to The Scottish Sun, Clarke is in the frame to become the new Celtic manager.

Former Rangers defender and assistant manager Weir believes that speculation on the future of Clarke shows the good work he is doing.

Weir said on Football Pass when asked if speculation regarding Celtic will distract Clarke: “I am not sure they would be distracting. That’s a sign of a manager who is doing well, Steve has done a great job undoubtedly. He did a great job at Kilmarnock, allowing him to get the Scotland job.

“He was everyone’s choice for that job and subsequently qualifying for a major tournament. It’s good news for Scotland that the manager is being linked with jobs of the level and I am sure he is completely focused with Scotland.”

Steve Clarke to Celtic?

Clarke is a very good manager who was successful at Kilmarnock and has done well for Scotland.

Managing a massive club such as Celtic could be very appealing to the 57-year-old.

Having worked as an assistant manager at big clubs such as Newcastle United, Chelsea, West Ham United and Liverpool, the Scotsman would not be fazed by the prospect of having to win each and every game at Celtic.
