‘That’s a problem’: Harry Redknapp makes Gareth Bale claim amid Tottenham rumours

Harry Redknapp has told Good Morning Transfers on Sky Sports (16/09/20 at 10:30 am) that Gareth Bale’s age and lack of game time in recent times could be a ‘problem’ for Tottenham.

Spanish outlet AS have reported that Spurs and Daniel Levy are in talks with Madrid about bringing Bale back to the club on-loan – and they are winning the race.

He left Spurs in 2013 for Real Madrid, and after years and years of trophy success, the last few years have resulted in well-documented problems with the Welshman, the manager and the board – and, as a result, the Golf-loving footballer has seen his game time reduced.

Former Spurs boss, Redknapp, who brought Bale to the club as a highly-rated youngster from Southampton, shared his thoughts on his situation.

“It’s a waste of a great talent to see him not involved in the team at Real Madrid,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “He can really make the difference at Tottenham, that’s for sure. He’s such a special talent.

On Bale’s wages: “What will happen is that Tottenham will pay a percentage of his wages. Let’s say he’s on £500k-a-week, or something crazy. Tottenham would pay a third of that knowing Daniel Levy, he will certainly do a good deal for Tottenham.

On Bale’s age & lack of games: “Well, that is a problem. He’s a great athlete and you look at him and he’s a complete all-round athlete. Great short distance runner. Long-distance. He can head. Dribble and shot. Great footballer.

“Hopefully, he will come and they will take their time with him. Obviously, they are not going to rush him into Saturday, midweek and Saturday games.”

If Tottenham can pull off this deal then it would no doubt be one of the biggest signings in Europe, nevermind in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho needs a player like Bale in his squad and the team in itself needs a massive lift after they started off the season in a pretty lacklustre fashion over the weekend.

The aim for the club is to get back into the Champions League and win a trophy – only last week that looked unlikely, but now this current situation has changed the landscape for one part of North London.”
