John Aldridge has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the news that referee David Coote will not be involved in Liverpool’s game against Leicester City at Anfield this weekend.
Liverpool will return to action in the Premier League on Sunday evening when they take on Leicester at Anfield.
As reported by Sky Sports and The Liverpool Echo among other media outlets, Coote will not be the the video assistant referee for the match.
Coote was the VAR during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in the Merseyside derby last month.
It was a controversial game in which Jordan Pickford went unpunished for a bad challenge on Virgil van Dijk, who is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Andre Marriner has replaced Coote as the VAR for Sunday’s match, and former Liverpool striker Aldridge is delighted with the news that the latter will not be on duty.
Big game
Leicester are a point ahead of third-placed Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table and are in good form at the moment
It is a big game for Leicester and for the Reds, who have recovered well from their defeat to Aston Villa and are picking up points.
