Ian Wright told the Kelly and Wrighty show that Daniel Levy wouldn’t be buying Lautaro Martinez to be a ‘back-up’ to Harry Kane at Tottenham.

There are suggestions that Spurs could possibly sign the Inter Milan forward and Wright thinks the 23-year-old would cost ‘£60 million’.

Kane was left out of the Tottenham squad that beat Manchester City in the Premier League today – the Englishman is still coming back to full fitness.

But that doesn’t hide the well-documented talk of Man City wanting to sign Tottenham’s best player this summer.

Wright thinks Levy is playing ‘hardball’ right till the death and he can’t see Martinez coming in to play second fiddle.

“We are seeing they are linked with Martinez, the guy from Inter Milan,” said Wright. “That’s £60 million.

“Tottenham aren’t buying a £60 million player as a back-up to Harry Kane. It seems to me that Daniel Levy is doing what he does.

“He is going to play hardball to the last second, like he done with Bale and like he has done with Berbatov. He will drag it out to the very last knockings.”

This saga affects Tottenham more because Kane is their player and it would cause an almighty mess if he were to leave – and with only weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.

But with Levy the one calling the shots, not many have got the better of the Spurs chairman, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Kane is still in North London beyond August 31.

Other than that, Nuno Espirito Santo has handled the situation very well and that opening three points against the Premier League champions is proof of that.
