Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, John McGinn has named Scott McTominay as the one Scotland player he’d love to sign for Aston Villa.

Scotland have a number of talented players in their ranks these days, but McGinn believes that McTominay would be the best fit at Villa Park.

“That could be a number of people by the way. Most like to sign? I hope nobody at Villa will be offended by this. I’ll go with big McTominay, I’m not choosing between Tierney and Robertson because that will be a debate,” McGinn said.

“The nice thing about the big man is that not only is he a star for Man U, he’s a brilliant guy and extremely humble, and the nice thing is that even though Scotland have a history of playing players with an English accent, whereas big Scott sees himself as Scottish, there wasn’t any doubt.

“He didn’t really play right away, but he didn’t complain, not one bit, he wasn’t like ‘I’m McTominay I play for Man U’, and now we’re seeing rewards of not only how versatile he is, but he’s an incredible athlete and an incredible player, so if we could have him at Villa beside me, that’d be nice.”

This is certainly interesting to hear.

McTominay would certainly be a handy addition to Villa’s midfield, but with Douglas Luiz starring this season, would he be a guaranteed starter?

The Scot is a tremendous player, there’s no doubt about that, but Villa have a very talented midfield in their own right.

In our view, Villa would be better off plucking somebody like Che Adams from the Scotland set-up to act as a backup to Ollie Watkins.
