That would not interest me at all… Swansea’s Paul Clement rules out becoming Everton assistant

Swansea City boss Paul Clement wouldn’t be interested in joining Carlo Ancelotti at Everton.

Swansea City boss Paul Clement has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying that he has no interest in becoming Everton’s new assistant manager alongside Carlo Ancelotti.

The Toffees sacked manager Ronald Koeman on Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after leading his side to a 5-2 home defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

After splashing out more than £100million on new signings over the summer, Everton were expected to enjoy a strong season under Koeman, having finished seventh in the Premier League last term.

However, with five defeats in nine Premier League and just one point taken from three Europa League outings, Everton have been dire this season, and Koeman has unsurprisingly paid the price with his job.

Now, the attention turns to finding a replacement. Under-23 boss David Unsworth has been handed the reins on a caretaker basis, and whilst he could land the job, other managers are being linked.

One such manager is Carlo Ancelotti, with The Independent reporting that the Italian – formerly of AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and recently let go by Bayern Munich – was a target for the Toffees.

The Sun even claimed that Ancelotti would be interested in taking the job whilst luring Swansea boss Paul Clement to Goodison Park with him as his assistant.

Ancelotti and Clement have had a long-standing working relationship having worked together at Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern, but a reunion seems unlikely.

Clement has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying that such a move wouldn’t interest him at all, as he is enjoying working for Swansea and hasn’t spoken to Ancelotti about the Everton speculation anyway.

“That would not interest me at all,” said Clement. “I really enjoy being here, I am at a really good club. It is a massive challenge, I am enjoying it and I do not have any plans to go anywhere. In terms of Carlo, I have not spoken to him for over a week. so I do not know anything about that situation,” he added.
