Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has told Rangers TV that Leeds United did try to sign Ryan Kent in the summer transfer window.
Wilson has added that he knows Leeds sporting director Victor Orta very well, and has backed his claim that Rangers did not want to sell Kent.
Orta told The Yorkshire Evening Post last month that Leeds tried to sign the former Liverpool winger, but Rangers did not want to sell him.
The Times reported in August that the Premier League club had made a bid of £10 million for Kent, but it was turned down by the Gers.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard himself confirmed the offer from the Whites, as quoted on talkSPORT in August.
Wilson told Rangers TV, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “Victor Orta is the sporting director at Leeds United and somebody I respect and is a good friend of mine.
“He’s already spoken about Ryan Kent and said Rangers made it very clear he wasn’t for sale and that would be true because it was never in our plans that he would leave Rangers. That was clear.”
Sensible stance
Kent is one of the best attacking players in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure at Rangers.
The Gers are aiming to win the the Scottish Premiership title this season, and the 23-year-old will play a big role in that quest.
According to WhoScored, the former Liverpool manager scored four goals and provided one assist in 12 Scottish Premiership matches for Gerrard’s side so far this season.
Rangers paid Liverpool £7 million in transfer fees to sign Kent in the summer of 2019 after a loan spell in 2018-19, as reported by The Times.
