Speaking on the Where’s Jeff? Podcast, Gunners legend Charlie Nicholas has been speaking about Mikel Arteta’s future at Arsenal.

Nicholas has been a staunch backer of Arteta for quite some time, but now even he is struggling to make a case for keeping the Spaniard on.

Nicholas says that the Gunners will have a problem attracting a top-class manager if they sack Arteta.

What’s been said?

Nicholas says that Arsenal would struggle to get a quality manager, naming Brendan Rodgers as one that would be out of reach.

“I said before Arteta got it that Brendan Rodgers would be my choice, I honestly don’t know whether they could get someone like Brendan Rodgers now from Leicester, that would be the issue I’d have if Arteta moves on,” Nicholas said.

Struggle

This is the cycle Arsenal now find themselves in.

Nicholas is absolutely right. Arsenal have fallen so far in recent years that they’re not an attractive destination for mot quality managers these days.

Someone like Antonio Conte would surely be aiming higher, and while Brendan Rodgers is at a historically smaller club in Leicester City, the Foxes are in a stronger position to challenge for major trophies than the Gunners at the moment.

If Arsenal do end up parting ways with Arteta, they may find it hard to replace him with someone who can take them to greater heights.
