Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur would be making an error by appointing Maurizio Sarri, as per his comments on Sky Sports.

Reports in Italy with Calcio Mercato have claimed that Tottenham have considered making an approach for Sarri, as they look for Jose Mourinho’s replacement.

He is now the favourite to take over at Spurs, but Redknapp has expressed concern about how appointing the former Chelsea boss would go down.

“The next manager has got to be the right one. You look at the odds there, Sarri that will not excite the Spurs fans one bit – one bit,” Redknapp said.

Many Tottenham fans already were left frustrated over Mourinho’s style of play, with plenty of supporters calling for more entertainment.

To go for Sarri would, therefore, be a real cause for concern.

Sarri never won over Chelsea supporters during his last spell in the Premier League due to his rather mundane style of football.

Sarri demands his sides play possession football and while slow and passive play has earned him success in Italy, it never truly clicked for him at Chelsea.

Sarri lasted for just one year at Chelsea and although he did win them the Europa League, he never was able to convince the Stamford Bridge crowd he was the right man for them.

Tottenham’s squad is built to attack, and to attack with pace – but whether they can find a manager to promote that sort of swashbuckling style remains to be seen.

As things stand Tottenham have Ryan Mason in charge until the end of the season.
