Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville has been discussing Liverpool and their poor start to the season.
The Reds may have won brilliantly in the Champions League on Wednesday, but there’s still the feeling that this result papered over the cracks that are very quickly forming in the foundations at Anfield.
Indeed, the Reds sit firmly in mid-table in the Premier League, and Neville believes that their poor start is about more than just bad form.
The pundit believes that Liverpool’s style of play has fundamentally changed, stating that they’ve lost the franticness that used to come with their style, stating that this element of their football used to define them.

Liverpool less frantic
Neville gave his view on the Reds’ style as of late.
“When Klopp first came in, the first two years were frantic. It wasn’t really a polished team; it was just brilliant to watch and exciting. Then they became good at possession and you had the pressing, the counter-attack,” Neville said
“They like the possession game now, but the frantic bit, the pressing has gone, and that was everything to me about a Klopp team. The emotion of last season is just catching up with them and not having anything in the tank this season.”
Predictable
Neville is right, Liverpool have lost their franticness, and ultimately, that has made them rather predictable.
Yes, they can hammer the likes of Rangers and Bournemouth, but when they come up against a tactically astute side, it’s not hard to figure out what Liverpool are trying to do.
The Reds’ attack has been far too blunt at times, while their defence has been nothing short of worrying, and while a structured approach works for most teams, perhaps Klopp needs to bring more chaos within his side.
