Leroy Sane has lauded Pep Guardiola for the way he changed his style of play during their together at Manchester City.

Speaking to T-Online, the Bayern Munich star was full of praise for the City boss. Sane left Manchester in 2020 for the Bundesliga champions. However, the Germany international has fond memories of his time in the north of England.

The winger was one of City’s top-performing players in their Centurion season. Moreover, Sane has noted the £280k-a-week manager as one of the key reasons behind his development with the Premier League giants.

Sane said: “That time left a strong mark on me, and I still benefit from it today, Pep Guardiola practically reprogrammed me on a tactical level in Manchester. It was about the tiniest details, every movement, every free gap should be used perfectly.”

With Sane finally beginning to find his feet in Bavaria, the 25-year-old attacker’s comments give weight to how important Guardiola is to City. The Catalan manager has been key to the club’s progression as one of the biggest in world football.

Indeed, numerous players have developed leaps and bounds under the former Bayern boss. With Phil Foden, John Stones and Raheem Sterling all noting how much they’ve grown under Guardiola.

Indeed, whilst Guardiola has been instrumental to City in recent years, Sane’s comments also highlight how difficult a challenge it will be for the Manchester side to replace the 50-year-old when he departs.

The Catalan coach has stated his intention to depart City in 2023. And whilst there is still some time before that faithful year, replacing Guardiola will be a near-impossible task for the Premier League champions.
