It’ll be interesting to see if Tottenham Hotspur sign a striker in January.

Spurs brought Carlos Vinicius to North London on a season-long loan from Benfica during the summer transfer window.

But 12 minutes of Premier League football, combined with links to Diego Costa next month, might suggest that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho isn’t convinced by the big forward.

Vinicius arrived at the Lilywhites after a move for Wolfsburg hitman Wout Weghorst collapsed, as confirmed by the Dutch marksman himself recently.

The 28-year-old, who has 13 goals in all competitions this season, has now revealed that he does not envisage a winter move away from the Bundesliga club, but did admit that Champions League football appealed to him.

He told Eindhoven Dagblad: “I don’t think January is the ideal time to make a transfer either. It’s only football, so you never know.

“I also have to be satisfied with what I have. I have a great contract with a club where I like it. We live here nicely, have a good time. I think I can stay here for the rest of my life; I like that.

“But I am ambitious; I would like to play the Champions League, that seems so nice.”

Of course, Tottenham can’t offer Champions League football this season, but if Weghorst sticks to his word and stays in Germany beyond the winter, and Mourinho leads Spurs back into Europe’s elite competition, then it’ll be very interesting to see if a summer move could be touted.

Let’s face it, if Vinicius was going to make it in North London then we’d probably already know by now.

Twelve minutes of Premier League action speaks volumes as to the concerns Mourinho patently has about him.
