Paul Merson has told Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 2:09pm, February 1, 2021) that he is shocked that Liverpool are reportedly interested in Ozan Kabak.
According to Sky Sports, Liverpool want to sign Kabak from Schalke on loan for the rest of the season.
It has been reported that the 20-year-old central defender is ready to undergo a medical in Germany if the two clubs can agree on a fee.
Former Arsenal star Merson, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that he is shocked that Liverpool are signing a defender from a club who are at the foot of the Bundesliga table at the moment.
Merson told Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 2:09pm, February 1, 2021): “The lad at Schalke won’t believe his luck. If you’re his agent, you’d be looking to get knighted! He’s just gone to the champions…. they’ve just one won game all season! That really did shock me. The lad at Preston is a decent player but it’s a massive jump. It’s just a case of getting bodies in.”

Good signing for Liverpool?
Kabak is only 20 years of age, and the Turkey international does have a lot of potential.
A loan deal for the youngster is good for Liverpool. Manager Jurgen Klopp will get a centre-back, and the defending English champions will not have to spend a lot of money.
At this point, for Liverpool, it is all about bringing in a centre-back or two to give Klopp more options for the rest of the season.
