What a dreadful day for Tottenham Hotspur, who lost 3-1 to Manchester United in North London this afternoon.
Tottenham missed the chance to move two points behind fourth-placed West Ham United in the race for Champions League qualification.
Instead, Jose Mourinho’s side are five points behind with seven Premier League games to go and with Liverpool and Chelsea ahead of them, it’ll be a big ask to finish in that top four.
Spurs were still in the game with 12 minutes remaining when Mourinho withdrew the impressive Tanguy Ndombele for Erik Lamela.
A minute later, Tottenham fell behind through Edinson Cavani, before Mason Greenwood killed off the hosts once and for all in the dying stages.
It’s true that the France international looked progressively more tired as the game went on, but he was still one of the few players who looked like sparking something for the Lilywhites and suffice to say that some fans are furious with the substitution – both in real time and retrospectively.
Here’s what some of them are saying on Twitter:
Prior to the game, there were reports that Harry Kane would demand a move away from Tottenham if they fail to finish in the Champions League spots this season, which means there’s a bit of extra significance to this defeat, in light of where it leaves Mourinho’s troops in regards to a top-four finish.
