Leeds United fans have reacted to the rumours that Chris Wood is set to sign for Newcastle United from Burnley.
Sky Sports report that Newcastle have activated a £25 million release clause in Wood’s Burnley contract and he is now close to swapping Turf Moor for St James’ Park.
The manner in which Wood’s is leaving has been a bit of a talking point and it hasn’t surprised the Leeds faithful.
It was five years ago that Wood, in controversial circumstances, left then-Championship side Leeds for Burnley.
At the time, some felt that the hard-hitting striker was taking the money option and some think he is doing the same here ahead of his proposed move to Newcastle.
Added with that, at 30-years-old and with only three Premier League goals to his name this term, some question the fee that is being paid to him.
Patrick Bamford, who has been out injured this season, is only one goal behind Wood’s this season, despite playing 11 games less.
Plus, the all-action striker, also became an England international in 2021, which further boosts his value.
And, as a result, the Leeds faithful have questioned what Bamford is worth if Wood’s is going for such a fee.
