Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after noticing that Mike Dean obstructed Martin Dubravka as Liverpool netted their third goal last night.
What’s the story?
Well, Newcastle suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Reds at Anfield, although the 52-year-old referee didn’t cover himself in glory in the 87th minute.
As Trent Alexander-Arnold lined up a shot, Dean could be seen running across the ball in an attempt to get out of the way.
However, he actually ends up blocking the sight of Dubravka, and would’ve been better placed staying where he was.
Dean also affects Jonjo Shelvey by making a sudden dash across the pitch.
When running in front of Alexander-Arnold, Dean prevents the Newcastle No.8 from closing the ball down properly.
Shelvey had to go around Dean, which gave Alexander-Arnold the space to smash an effort in at the Kop End.
In truth, it was such a powerful hit that Dubravka may not have saved it anyway.
However, Dean didn’t allow the Slovakia international the best chance of stopping it – in fairness, he did get a glove on it.
Newcastle fans were fearful of Mike Dean vs Liverpool

Before kick-off, the Toon Army were not happy to see Dean put in charge of this Premier League clash.
One supporter even predicted an 8-0 loss after seeing that Dean would officiate the game.
While things weren’t that bad, the Wirral-born official certainly didn’t have the best game of his career.

You could argue that Diogo Jota’s goal should not have stood, as Isaac Hayden was down with a head injury during the buildup, in which he played everyone onside.
Hopefully, the Magpies can put this behind them quickly, although they have every right to be angry.
For now, let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about Dean…
