Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT that Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, ‘isn’t quite as good as he once was’.
Even though Kane produced the best season of his career in 2020/21 by finishing as the Premier League’s top goalscorer and assist-maker, Cascarino thinks there are certain qualities that have now ‘surpassed him’.
Kane is still waiting to get off the mark at Euro 2020, and a lot has been made about his performance, but a lot of that is down to a lack of service and the pragmatic system he is playing under.
Nonetheless, these were the remarkable comments by Cascarino on Tottenham’s 27-year-old hitman and how he is seemingly declining.
“Harry Kane isn’t quite as good as he once was because there was a time when he could create his own chances and score,” said Cascarino.
“I think that has surpassed him now. I think he is more needy of other players to create opportunities for him, which most forwards need anyway.
“I always felt that Kane could always do something from a moment and stick it in the top corner.
“I don’t think he’s quite that at this point of his career and he’s still a terrific forward and he will get loads of goals.”

It’s a crying shame as to how Kane is perceived in this country despite producing one of the best performances an individual has showcased over a campaign.
And it needs to be remembered, Kane wasn’t playing for a team riding a wave, winning titles or in progression.
But one in decline, yet he was able to demonstrate such consistent performances like he’s winning the domestic treble with the best team in the land.
That lack of appreciation for Kane is showcased when he is playing for England and getting criticised for his performances.
Perhaps change the system, put players around Kane, allow runners beyond the Englishman, push the team forward and then critics will see his goalscoring qualities showcase themselves at Euro 2020.
