Chelsea have just beaten Manchester City to win the Champions League.
Porto played host as the Blues beat Pep Guardiola’s side 1-0 to win the competition for a second time.
Kai Havertz was the hero for Chelsea as his first-half strike proved the difference between both sides.
The German was excellent throughout the game but Alan Shearer has said one Chelsea player was even better.
Manchester City, the Premier League champions, barely had a sniff and so much of that is down to N’Golo Kante.
The France midfielder sat in front of his back four and didn’t put a foot wrong during what was a phenomenal and yet simple performance.
Here’s what Shearer said on DAZN: “He’s been absolutely magnificent. He’s been everywhere, tackled everyone, won every tackle. Just stopped Manchester City before they’ve been able to get going. Man of the match for me. Havertz has been superb, but that guy Kante, wow.”
The 30-year-old has proven himself as a man for the big occasion and what a time to produce one of his best performances for the West Londoners.
It was heartbreaking for Manchester City whose wait to lift this trophy goes on for at least another 12 months.
This was as close as the Citizens have ever come to winning this competition.
It’s easy to say Guardiola’s side never turned up but that argument discredits Chelsea’s sensational defensive work.
And that, as we know, was typified by the former Leicester City star in midfield.
