Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Charlie Adam has suggested that Steven Gerrard could be someone Rangers look at as they search for a new manager.

The Glasgow outfit are on the hunt for a new manager as they look to replace Giovani van Bronckhorst, and Adam says that Gerrard could be a name that comes up in discussions.

Of course, Gerrard was the manager that ended the lengthy title drought at Ibrox back in 2021, and after being sacked by Aston Villa, he is on the market.

Gerrard to return?

Adam suggested that Gerrard is a name that could be discussed by Rangers.

“It’s a difficult one. I think it’s written in the stars for Michael Beale to be the manager. Will Steven be back in the discussions as well? That could be something that pops up as well, but I don’t see anyone apart from Michael Bele being Rangers manager,” Adam said.

Why not?

The old cliché in football is ‘never go back’, but why shouldn’t Rangers go back for Gerrard at this point?

He’s out of work, he knows the squad, he’s loved by the fans and he did a brilliant job first time around.

It’s not as though too much has changed at Ibrox since his departure last year, it’s largely the same squad, and he worked wonders last time around.

Rangers don’t necessarily need to move in a new direction, they just need to get back on track, and who better to lead them than the man who took them on that course in the first place.

Gerrard would be an eyebrow-raising appointment, but it wouldn’t be a bad one by any stretch of the imagination.
