Gary Neville has said that he’s stunned Liverpool have been caught up by Manchester United in the Premier League title race, on his self titled podcast.

Goal difference in the only thing separating Liverpool from United now, with also Manchester City hot on their heels.

Neville spent last month thinking that Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea were the leading contenders in the title race.

But he has now have to re-assess that opinion, as United and City both seem to be starting to click into gear.

“Manchester United have become competitive out of nowhere,” he said.

“Four weeks ago, I remember myself, Roy Keane and Micah Richards were saying that Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham were far ahead of the two Manchester clubs.

“Now, we come off the back of the City performance and United are sat there, level on points with Liverpool.

“If you’d said five weeks ago that Manchester United will be level on points with Liverpool I’d have said that can’t happen. That shows how unusual this season is.”

Liverpool will surely not be unduly concerned about being caught up at the top of the league, but the pressure is starting to build on Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds just haven’t been able to pull away from the pack like they did last season, with the Merseyside outfit’s away form particularly poor.

Liverpool actually face another difficult test this evening, as they take on Southampton at St. Mary’s.

A victory would put daylight between Liverpool and the chasing pack again, but if they were to lose then it would really open up the title race and provide others with genuine hope of catching them.
