Adam Forshaw has told Illan Meslier on his Instagram story ‘thanks for saving me’ after his penalty heroics for Leeds on Tuesday night.
Leeds progressed through to the EFL Cup last night, but they had to do it the hard way against Fulham.
Even though the Championship side made 11 changes, Leeds, who had the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas, Junior Firpo, Rodrigo, Daniel James and Mateusz Klich starting for them, yet they couldn’t get on the scoresheet during the 90 minutes.
Instead, the tie went to penalties, with Forshaw, along with Joe Bryan, blasting their shot over the bar.
Leeds’ £4.5 million man (BBC Sport) would have been worrying that his spot-kick could cost his side a place in the next round.
But Meslier stepped up and literally saved the day for Leeds, with Rodrigo Muniz’s penalty being the crucial one.
Forshaw was grateful for his teammate and sent this message to him on his IG story: “Thanks for saving me.”
It may not be a win over 90 minutes for Leeds, but it’s a much-needed confidence-booster and clean sheet.
Bielsa’s men are yet to win a Premier League game this season and this is where fans start to get a little worried.
They have a chance to put an end to that when they host West Ham United at the weekend.
But if this winless run continues, especially if they take it into the next international break, then the obvious of second season syndrome will be thrown in their direction.
