What a way it was for Arsenal’s Joe Willock to announce himself to Newcastle United fans on Saturday.
The 21-year-old joined Steve Bruce’s side on a half-season loan from the Gunners earlier this week.
And Willock, an Arsenal academy graduate, wasted no time in kicking his career in the North East off with a big bang.
On Saturday, the midfielder, who earns £20,000 per week with the Emirates Stadium oufit, opened the scoring as Newcastle beat Southampton 3-2 at St James’s Park.
The youngster, who had 40 Premier League games under his belt before joining the Magpies, tapped home from inside the box following great work from Allen Saint-Maximin.
Here’s how Newcastle fans are reacting to his goal on Twitter:
It wasn’t only the goal which made Willock enjoy a dream debut – it was the performance.
Southampton simply couldn’t live with the Arsenal loanee as he burst through the middle of their team time and time again and his goal was a fine example of what he’ll bring to this team over the next few months – and maybe longer.
