Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Fabrizio Romano revealed that Jurgen Klopp was offered the chance to sign Ezequiel Garay, but rejected the opportunity.
The transfer specialist was speaking on his ‘Here We Go‘ podcast where he said the following: ‘Garay was offered to Liverpool as a free agent but they said no. He’s not the type of player they want.
‘They are in no rush, they are looking at the window for opportunities. They are more interested in extending contracts.’
It seems like some Liverpool fans are happy with this news, and they have every right to be.
In fairness to Garay, he has enjoyed an excellent career, making 466 appearances in total having played for the likes of Real Madrid, Valencia and Benfica.
However, there is no benefit to Klopp in signing a 34-year-old centre-back.

Admittedly, the Reds will struggle without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. However, there are far more positives in allowing Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams to develop, rather than sign a player nearing retirement.
Garay is currently a free agent after leaving Valencia at the end of last season. The 32-cap Argentina international made 23 appearances in all competitions last term, including five in the Champions League.
We’re sure the Rosario-born defender would be able to step in and do a job for Klopp.

However, as aforesaid, that feels very much like short-term thinking, when there are far more long-term benefits in trusting Williams and Phillips to compete with Joel Matip and Fabinho.
Let’s see how the Liverpool fans reacted to Romano’s update…
