Will Anderson Jr. has reset the NFL market, and not just by a small margin.
The Houston Texans star has been rewarded for his rapid rise into one of the league’s most dominant defensive players.
And the deal reflects both his production and the value elite pass rushers now carry in today’s game.

Will Anderson Jr. becomes the highest-paid non-QB with the Texans’ extension
As reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Texans locked in their franchise defender.
“The Texans and All-Pro edge Will Anderson Jr. have agreed on a blockbuster, 3-year, $150M extension with $134M guaranteed to make him the NFL’s highest paid non-QB ever,” Rapoport wrote.
The deal also includes a rare no-trade clause, a provision almost never given to non-quarterbacks, highlighting just how much control and value Anderson now holds within the organization.
At $50 million per year, the contract sets a new benchmark for defensive players and separates Anderson from the rest of the market.
Why Will Anderson Jr.’s dominance made this deal inevitable
In the 2025 season alone, Anderson recorded 12 sacks, 54 tackles, and 20 tackles for loss while adding 85 quarterback pressures, one of the highest totals in the league.
That performance earned him First-Team All-Pro honors and a runner-up finish in Defensive Player of the Year voting, cementing his status among the NFL’s elite.
His impact goes beyond individual numbers. Anderson anchored a Texans defense that ranked first in scoring defense and among the top units in overall efficiency.
Through three seasons, he has already totaled 30 career sacks, improving each year since entering the league as the No. 3 overall pick.
That combination of consistency, production and game-changing presence is exactly why Houston made the decision early. Because at this point, Anderson is not just a cornerstone. He is the standard.
