West Ham United academy director Terry Westley has told the club’s official website that he felt Marcus Browne as simply too much for Everton to handle on Monday night.

On Sunday, West Ham’s first team claimed a credible 1-1 draw away at Chelsea, with Javier Hernandez rescuing a point after Cesar Azpilicueta’s opener for the hosts.

Just 24 hours later, West Ham’s youngsters were in action, as the Hammers faced Everton in the Premier League 2 at Southport’s Haig Avenue stadium.

West Ham were in blistering form as they claimed a thumping 4-0 win, and forward Marcus Browne took all the plaudits having racked up all four goals in Monday’s victory.

Browne bagged his first by converting from close range after Sead Haksabanovic’s shot had been parried, before neat footwork inside the box gave him the chance to score his second after the break.

Browne added his third from a tight angle, before a long-range drive handed him a fourth of the evening in what was a stunning display.

The 20-year-old has been hailed for his display, and West Ham United academy director Terry Westley has told the club’s official website after the final whistle that he felt Browne was just too much for Everton on the night, highlighting that the referee even congratulated Browne on his display because he was that good.

“Marcus was too much for them in every sense. He was too quick, too powerful, his finishing was better tonight. He took everything he had,” said Westley. “He was the standout player on the pitch, congratulated by the referee, and that shows you how good you’ve been, when the referee does that after the game.”

“I think the behaviour traits for [Browne] are very important and are what you need when you have been injured. You have to look after your body. Being out of the team and struggling with those has shown him how professional he needs to be off the pitch. Also the responsibility of being captain; he’s led by example tonight and at City. In the dressing room, in training, he needs to try and keep that culture of excellence and those behaviours on and off the pitch, when he gets right, he’s a real handful. Congratulations to him,” he added.
