Times have changed at Ibrox and Rangers would struggle to sign such big name stars now.
England’s Wayne Rooney
This summer three experienced England internationals, including two England captains, could be available for transfer.
John Terry is leaving Chelsea on a free transfer after a lifetime service to the club. Wayne Rooney’s playing time at Manchester United has rapidly diminished, leaving rumours flying over his long-term future. Meanwhile Joe Hart is not wanted at Manchester City and not many clubs seem forthcoming when it comes to signing England’s number one goalie.
Three top internationals, all potentially available.
There was a time when Rangers would have been right in the mix to sign them.

The Glasgow club have a rich history of top English talent thriving at Ibrox. Terry Butcher, Ray Wilkins, Paul Gascoigne to name three.
But times have changed at Rangers. Money is now tight and the club are way off the pace being set by local rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
England’s Joe Hart
There is no doubt that the prestige of Rangers as a football club would attract players like Terry, Rooney and Hart, especially at this stage of their careers.
Unfortunately, Rangers’ transfer targets now have to be of the more frugal and less inspiring kind.
Perhaps one day, Rangers can return to such heady transfer status again.
