Former Rangers defender Butcher won three league titles in four years at Ibrox.

Former Glasgow Rangers defender Terry Butcher does not want to see Joe Garner sold to Ipswich Town.
However, that appears to be more to do with Butcher’s Ipswich affiliation than his affection for the current Ibrox striker.
Rangers striker Joe Garner
Ipswich have been linked with a £500,000 move for Garner less than a year since Rangers paid £1.8 million to sign the former Preston North End player.
Garner only managed to score seven league goals during his first season at Rangers and could find his place under threat next term, with Mexico international Eduardo Herrera expected to arrive from Pumas in a £1.5 million deal.

But when asked about Garner’s potential arrival at Ipswich, Butcher told the Green ‘Un: “He wouldn’t be one I’d be excited about getting to be honest.
“He’s just not the sort of player that Ipswich need. They need a Daryl Murphy replacement, a physical presence who can head it, control it and link the play up. David McGoldrick needs someone to feed off again. Getting that big, strong striker is the most important piece of the jigsaw for me.”
Murphy left Ipswich for Newcastle United last summer, but is reportedly available after the Magpies’ promotion back to the Premier League.

That could put Mick McCarthy’s side on alert, and perhaps even convince them against a move for Rangers’ Garner.
The 29-year-old remains under contract at Ibrox until June 2019.
