Former Ipswich Town defender Terry Butcher admits Marley Watkins’ Norwich City move is “a bitter pill to swallow”.
Watkins became Norwich’s first summer signing when he arrived on a free transfer from Barnsley last week, having scored 10 goals and created another nine this past Championship campaign.

The recent Wales call-up played under Butcher at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and the 58-year-old was hoping he would end up at Portman Road, after Ipswich saw a bid turned down by the Tykes in January.
He told the Green ‘Un: “Marley Watkins going to Norwich is a bitter pill to swallow for me because I know him well and thought he would have been fantastic for Ipswich.
“Unfortunately he has gone to the enemy, so I’ll be having a few words with him about that move the next time I see him!”

Norwich are wasting little time re-shaping their squad after their failure to gain promotion at the first attempt, having released seven first-teamers, appointed a new manager in Daniel Farke and added to Watkins’ capture with England Under-21 goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
Gunn, the son of legendary former Canaries custodian, Bryan, arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester City on Tuesday.

Ipswich, meanwhile, are yet to make any new signings after ending the campaign in 16th place.
