Sunderland will face Championship side QPR in the fourth round of the League Cup.
The Black Cats remain the one League One side in the competition as Lee Johnson’s high flying side claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over Wigan. As for QPR, they clinched a berth into the next round after beating Everton on penalties.
With the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool still in the competition, Sunderland could thank their stars that they weren’t drawn against Premier League opposition.
Instead, a trip to west London will now be on the cards for Johnson’s side. Sunderland have impressed this campaign under the 40-year-old manager, with the northeast club currently second in the League One standings.
Indeed, a clash with QPR in the League Cup could see Sunderland make it to the quarter-finals of the competition. Two more Championship clubs also made it to the last 16 in Preston North End and Stoke City.
However, despite missing out on one of the Premier League big guns, Sunderland fans on social media are fuming that they were drawn against QPR in the League Cup.

Whilst the Championship side will be a good test for Johnson’s side, Sunderland fans were hoping for a tie against one of the biggest clubs in England.
