Robbie Keane was critical of Hugo Lloris and his ‘terrible’ goalkeeping during Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Sunday, as he told Premier League Productions (13/02/22 at 3 pm).
Inside the first 20 minutes, Wolves raced into a 2-0 lead and Keane thinks Lloris should have done ‘a lot better’ with the goals conceded.
The first strike came from Raul Jimenez’s boot, but in the build-up, Lloris would felt that he should have caught a shot prior to the Wolves hitman sweetly volleying home the opener.
Then it was the mess of Leander Dendoncker’s goal, which then resulted in Antonio Conte hooking off Ryan Sessegnon after just 28 minutes.
Whilst it wasn’t a case of singling out the Englishman, he just paid the price for a quite abject afternoon from the whole team in north London.
And Keane wasn’t too impressed by what he was seeing from Tottenham’s captain against their fellow Champions League-chasing side.
“Spurs have been very, very sloppy,” said Keane. “Lloris has to do a lot better here. Even the first save. Can he go wider?
“Then the second one, he just has to grab it. There is no one really around him. He has his own defender beside him. It’s very, very soft. But take nothing away from (Jimenez’s) finish.
“This also (second goal), he is obviously still thinking about his mistake from before. Just terrible. A pass wide. Get a little bit fortunate, of course, but hits the target and Dendoncker just follows through.”
It was initially looking rosy in the garden for Antonio Conte and Tottenham in the Premier League, but it’s all starting to come crashing down now.
That’s three defeats on the bounce in the league and all those games in hand are starting to wash away.
What’s even worse about the Wolves result is that the Midlands side have overtaken them in the table.
So, it’s a double shot in the foot for Conte’s men, who only have the small matter of facing Manchester City next.
