Terence Crawford has responded to some of the ongoing criticism about his career.

Despite being widely recognised for his abilities in the ring, Crawford has often been criticised for lacking signature fights that would define his legacy. There have also been questions about his drawing power.

A rematch against Canelo Alvarez next year could add another big name to his record, even though he’s already beaten him convincingly once.

Just hours before he was stripped of the undisputed super middleweight titles, which he claimed by defeating Canelo, Crawford took to social media to address some of the commentary surrounding him.

In a series of posts, he brought up two legends who are frequently mentioned in dream fight debates – matchups that fans wish could have happened but never will.

Terence Crawford believes Floyd Mayweather could have caused him issues

Terence Crawford responded on X to those who say he doesn’t sell, bringing up a fight he chased for a long time that never materialised.

Crawford had been calling for a bout with Manny Pacquiao for years, and he thinks the reason it never happened was because some people didn’t want him to become too big too quickly, especially while Pacquiao was still such a major name in the sport.

“I respect Manny [Pacquiao], don’t get it twisted,” he wrote. “But he’s been knocked out more than once. If you know boxing then you know he would have had to take a lot of chances with me and I’m definitely not the one to chance with if you know what you watching. Just ask his coach.”

Crawford went on to explain why he doesn’t feel comparisons with other legends hold much weight, apart from their higher profile opponents.

He feels the only real difference is that they fought more well-known names and is confident that his style and skill would have translated just as well in any era.

Crawford finished by acknowledging that there is one fighter from previous generations who may have truly tested him.

“I be paying homage to the ones before me but [Floyd] Mayweather the only one I would have had problems with because [of] his mind. And I’m done talking about it go argue with yo momma.”

Terence Crawford’s idol explains why he picks him over Floyd Mayweather

In one of his posts, Terence Crawford aimed criticism at former fighters and legends, suggesting their negative opinions stem from seeing him accomplish things they never did.

“I be happy for the generation after me to do big things,” Crawford wrote. “But it’s a lot of fighters that came before me that be hating on the younger fighters.”

One legend who does side with ‘Bud’ is the man whom he admitted being star struck by when he met him for the first time.

Roy Jones Jr put skill aside when arguing that he appreciates Crawford more than Floyd Mayweather because of his willingness to constantly challenge himself.
