Speculation is rife that Liverpool and Manchester United are both chasing Moises Caicedo this summer.

According to Studio Futbol, as reported by HITC Sport, both Premier League outfits are interested in the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

The report from Friday added that Liverpool were weighing up a £42 million offer for the Manchester United target who, according to the same source, isn’t interested in the Red Devils.

Despite their Premier League form under Erik ten Hag thus far, being completely uninterested in the prospect of joining the Old Trafford outfit just doesn’t happen.

United are still a massive club, evident by the fact that they’ve just signed Casemiro in a £70 million deal.

But it’s that same piece of business which could wind up helping Liverpool sign the 20-year-old, ahead of their English rivals.

That’s because Caicedo, like Casemiro, is a central midfielder and although you could argue Ten Hag needs another body alongside the former Real Madrid powerhouse, they aren’t going to be dropping another figure in excess of £40 million to get Caicedo, too.

And that benefits Liverpool because if United are out of the equation, and their business to sign Casemiro certainly indicates that they are, then this could, in theory, be a lot easier for the Anfield side.

As mentioned, Manchester United are an enormous entity and that doesn’t change because of a 4-0 defeat at Brentford.

They’re capable of challenging Liverpool for players but their deal to sign Casemiro could – and should – indicate that the path is clearer in regards to bringing Caicedo to Merseyside.
