Graeme Souness has warned Everton’s new signing, James Rodriguez, that he will find it ‘hard’ in the Premier League, as he told Sky Sports News (08/09/20 at 3:55 pm).

The Sky Sports pundit also surprisingly claimed that he is ‘telling the truth’ by wanting Everton to ‘have a good season’ ahead of the new campaign despite being an ex-Liverpool player.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who have been busy during the summer transfer window, will take on Jose Mourinho’s Spurs at the weekend.

Souness brushed off the thought that Everton will be pushing for the top-four, as he sent a warning to Rodriguez about playing in England’s top-flight and the difficulties that come with it.

“Top six, not top four, I don’t see them getting into the top four,” Souness told Sky Sports. “I am a big fan of Ancelotti. He is a very experienced manager and successful manager. Wherever he has gone, he has done a great job.

“Rodriguez has struggled to make an impact at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the past. I think he’s got it all to do in our football. Our football has caught so many so-called ‘big players’ in our league.

“They find the intensity of it [difficult]. But I wish him well. He will find it hard. I have lived in that city and Everton supporters are extremely passionate. This is me telling you the truth, I hope they have a good season.”

Rodriguez has something to prove because he hasn’t hit the heights many expected him to at the age of 29 – this could prove to be a career-changing move.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan, who also joined along with the Colombian, are perhaps the players who will bring the best out of the 2014 Golden Boot winner.

Whilst Rodriguez tries to work his magic in the final third, the energy in which the defensive-minded duo have in their game. Added with their ability to sense danger, break up play and play that simple pass to the more attack-minded player, is what the ex-Bayern Munich man will thrive on.
