Jordan Hackett has posted an 11-word message on Twitter after completing a move from Newcastle United from Tottenham Hotspur this week. The young defender has penned professional terms with the Toon.

Hackett, 18, has posted on Twitter after signing a pro deal with Eddie Howe’s side. It comes after being a regular with Tottenham’s Under-18 side and also appearing on the bench for Tottenham’s Under-21 side last term.

The left-back, who boasts caps for England at both Under-15 and Under-18 level, has stats of 34 appearances for Tottenham’s Under-18 side. The Northern Echo said Hackett has rejected numerous clubs to join Newcastle.

Indeed, Hackett featured in a recent friendly for Newcastle’s second string against Rangers and now, has put pen to paper. Replying to his CAA Base’s Tweet, Hackett underlined his delight with an 11-word message.

So, why has Hackett chosen to leave Spurs for Newcastle? Well, the path into the first team is much clearer. Spurs have just signed Ivan Perisic, and still boast Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon as left-back options.

Meanwhile, at Newcastle, left-back has been a long-term issue. Matty Targett has signed permanently, but Jamal Lewis was not included in the 25-man squad for the second half of the season. Paul Dummett could depart.

Hackett’s route into Newcastle’s first team is filled with less obstacles than it would have been at Spurs. But for now, Hackett needs to focus on establishing himself as the first-choice option at Under-21 level.
