Teenage striker Deon Moore scored twice for Sheffield Wednesday’s Under-23s on Monday night.
Moore’s goals, plus another from George Hirst, helped to secure a 3-2 win over Worksop Town in Neil Thompson’s side’s opening pre-season friendly match.
At this stage it is unclear whether Moore has signed for the Owls officially, or if the Championship side are simply taking a look at the 18-year-old, who left previous club Peterborough United in mysterious circumstances.
At the start of last season, Moore was described as a “gifted striker” by Peterborough boss Chris McCann, who tipped him to follow in the footsteps of another Posh teenager, Leo Da Silva Lopes, and thrive in League One.
But, after six appearances at first team level, the former Carshalton Town player was out of London Road by April, for reasons which are yet to be disclosed.
Whatever it was must have been bad, with club chairman Darragh MacAnthony refusing to mention Moore’s name in an interview with Peterborough Today shortly after.

On the pitch at least, Moore seems to be making a much better impression at Sheffield Wednesday.
