The 18-year-old midfielder has said that he went for a trial at Celtic after being released by their bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers when he was younger.
The teenager, whose elder brother Greg Taylor moved to Celtic only last summer after leaving Kilmarnock, has said that the Hoops offered him a contract, but he decided to snub them and take up golfing instead.
The midfielder eventually returned to football and joined Greenock boys club East End United, before earning a move to Kilmarnock.
Taylor told The Scottish Sun: “I chucked football for a year. After Rangers I went on trial at Celtic for a couple of months.”
The youngster added: “Celtic offered to sign me, but my head was all over the place. I was in the car after my mum had driven me up to Barrowfield and I didn’t want to train any more.
“I’d had injuries at Rangers, and found it tough to get in the team when I came back. I think after what had happened at Rangers — training three, four times a week then not getting a game — scunnered me.
“But I didn’t want it any more and thought it wasn’t for me. I thought it was right to take some time away from football. I played golf instead and wasn’t bad at it.”
Future Celtic move?
Taylor is only at the start of his career, and the teenager has yet to establish himself in the Kilmarnock first team.
Perhaps in the coming years, Celtic will make the midfielder an offer again, if he plays well for Killie and continues to develop and progress.
According to WhoScored, the midfielder made one substitute appearance in the Scottish Premiership for Kilmarnock this season.
The Scottish top flight has been called off early this season due to the global health crisis.
