Celtic reportedly tried and failed to sign Tottenham Hotspur teenager Troy Parrott on loan.
The 19-year-old hitman is one of the Premier League’s most exciting young players and, according to The Irish Independent, Celtic wanted him in Glasgow.
The same report claims that it was the Tottenham striker himself who decided not to join the Hoops – and he’s right.
The Irishman is now set to join Millwall in the Championship and it’s just a better move for him.
No, Millwall aren’t anywhere near Celtic in terms of stature, but they do play in a stronger division and one season in the Championship will do much more for Parrott’s development than one season in the Scottish Premiership.
At Parkhead, he had the chance to make history if Neil Lennon guides the Bhoys to 10 Premiership titles in a row, and god knows Spurs need players with some trophy-winning experience going forward.
But this time next year, he’ll be a better, more rounded player because of his stint with the Lions than he would if he had agreed on the Celtic switch.
It’s often said that players learn more about themselves in defeat than victory and there’ll be some tough times ahead in London, in that crazy division where anybody can beat anyone.
It isn’t as competitve North of the border as Celtic look to prolong their utter domination of Scottish football.
Parrott could’ve been part of that if he wanted to but, at his age, an education is more important than silverware and he’ll learn a lot more at The Den.
