Maxi Tainio has officially left Tottenham Hotspur.

The 19-year-old joined Spurs back in 2016 as a youth player and only signed his first professional contract with the North London club last year.

But it looks like Tottenham have elected against keeping him on.

The Finland-born player has returned to his homeland to join FC Haka, who are managed by former Lilywhites midfielder Teemu Tainio.

Haka released a statement on their website, which can be found here.

Tainio, a winger, never made a senior appearance for Tottenham but he was named among the Under-21 players registered to play in the Premier League, though wasn’t included in the 20-man squad, according to Football London.

Given the abundance of young talent at Spurs – especially on the wing, with Jack Clarke among those tipped for a big future – it was always going to be tough for Tainio to break into Jose Mourinho’s senior side.

But it’ll be interesting to see how he fares under his father back in Finland.
