Demarai Gray has been longing to find some much-needed minutes on the pitch this season – and it seems as though it won’t come at either Tottenham or Leeds.

The light-footed speedster, who has only managed 18 minutes of Premier League football this term, was a wanted player by many in clubs, including Spurs and Leeds – he has six months left on his current contract at Leicester City.

Journalist Duncan Castle told the Transfer Window Podcast that his sources had told him that Gray was heading to Tottenham, whilst The Daily Mirror’s paper edition on January 5 (page 47) had reported that Leeds were leading the race for his signature.

Well, Germany has seemingly become a hotbed for young English talent to showcase their talents from Dortmund star Jadon Sancho to one-time West Ham wonderkid Reece Oxford, who is now at Augsburg.

And Gray is pretty close to adding his name to that list.

Sky Sports are reporting that Gray has ‘agreed personal terms’ with Bayer Leverkusen, as he is set to swap the Midlands for Germany’s western state.

Tottenham fans won’t be too fussed at missing out on his signature, even if he could be signed for little money, because they have enough talent out wide.

Whilst there are question marks on some of those players, and the landscape of their attacking wide players can change in the summer, it’s perhaps Leeds who could do with his services.

They need depth across the pitch, and as Brendan Rodgers put it himself, Gray is a ‘technically strong’ forward [Sky Sports], who will now be hoping to prove his worth in Germany.

It needs to be remembered, if he does depart for the Bundesliga, then he leaves England as a one-time Premier League champion.
