Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are buzzing over Ledley King’s return to North London.
Spurs announced via their official Twitter account this afternoon that the club’s legendary defender has joined Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff.
King spent 16 years on Tottenham’s books before hanging up his boots in 2012 following long-term injury struggles.
Mourinho has appointed him in the role of First-Team Assistant, following the departure of Tactical Analyst Ricardo Formosinho.
Because of the 39-year-old’s affinity with the Lilywhites, King is a hugely popular figure among fans of the North London club.
And here’s how they reacted on Twitter to his return:
Long term, King might have his eye on senior management and who knows, if Mourinho were to leave Tottenham at some point over the next year or two, maybe he’d get the chance to step up in an interim role.
But that’s a long way away yet and nobody at the club will be thinking about Mourinho’s departure just yet.
The Portuguese oversaw a brilliant end to the 2019-20 campaign, despite a few rough games during Project Restart, and it’ll be interesting to see how his first full season pans out – especially with King shadowing him.
