Some Liverpool fans on Twitter are raving about how effectively Fabinho shackled Lionel Messi this morning.

Fabinho posted a fine display in Brazil’s 0-0 draw with Argentina.

One of the reasons why Messi and co failed to score was the presence of the Liverpool midfielder.

The former Monaco powerhouse, a £43 million signing in 2018, kept Messi on a very short leash throughout the 90 minutes.

In all, Fabinho boasted a pass success rate of 85 percent, won nine ground duels – some against Messi – and completed seven tackles overall.

Here’s what Liverpool fans are saying on Twitter:

Still fit

The main thing for Liverpool is that Fabinho isn’t injured.

What a travesty it would’ve been for the Reds and Jurgen Klopp had he broken down with injury during this international break.

Klopp, whose side host Arsenal on Saturday, has enough injury issues to contend with in terms of midfielders, so keeping Fabinho fit was an enormous boost.

Really, bossing someone like Lionel Messi was a bonus for the Liverpool man, of secondary importance to remaining healthy.
