Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Football London revealed that Gabriel Martinelli will play for the Under-21 side against AFC Wimbledon tonight.

The Brazilian has been missing since June after suffering a serious knee injury in training, although he is set to make his highly-anticipated return.

Football London states that Martinelli will play roughly 45 to 60 minutes before being substituted to protect his fitness, which is wise from the Gunners.

The last thing Mikel Arteta would want is for the wonderkid to suffer a setback in his recovery. The 19-year-old excelled last season in what was his debut campaign at the Emirates.

Martinelli scored ten goals and assisted four more in all competitions. His achievements were all the more impressive seeing as he arrived from Ituano FC, who play in Série C – the third tier of Brazilian football.

Arteta desperately needs the teenager’s pace, energy and clinical finishing right now.

Arsenal have netted just ten goals in the Premier League this season – only West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley have scored fewer.
