Arsenal fans on Twitter have reacted to Chuba Akpom returning to England and signing for English Championship side Middlesbrough, as posted on their official website.

Akpom, who came through the ranks in North London, left Arsenal in 2018 to join Greek side PAOK Salonika [Sky Sports] – Unai Emery had just replaced Arsene Wenger at the Emirates.

Whilst Emery clearly didn’t have much time to work with him, Wenger was the one who brought him through and played a big part in his rise during his 16 years at the club.

He has now returned to England to link up with the experienced Neil Warnock at the Riverside, as the North East side will be pushing for promotion this season.

The Arsenal faithful have backed Akpom to do bits in England’s second-tier, as they stated that they are pleased to see him make a return.

It will be interesting to see how the speedster fares at Boro because during his days at Arsenal many were tipping him to become a regular at the club.

But he struggled to break through despite having this raw pace to his game and he ended up being moved on by Arsene Wenger.

Arsenal’s record transfer deals

  1. Nicolas Pepe

    £72 million

  2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    £56 million

  3. Alexandre Lacazette

    £52 million

  4. Thomas Partey

    45 million

  5. Mesut Ozil

    £42 million

Still, 24, Akpom still has plenty of time to prove that he can become a top-flight player in England, it’s just about showing he has goals to his game.

Boro were knocked out of the League Cup recently, so a potential cup meeting with Arsenal in that competition is now out of the window.

But there is always the FA Cup!

Nonetheless, here is a selection of Arsenal fans reacting to Akpom making a return to England:
