Rangers defender James Tavernier has raved about his Ibrox teammate Nathan Patterson, as quoted in Herald Scotland.

Patterson is the back-up to Tavernier at right-back and was in action for Rangers against Lincoln Red Imps away from home in Europa League Qualifying Second Round on Thursday evening.

The 18-year-old right-back came on as a substitute in the 42nd minute, and the teenager did well, as Steven Gerrard’s side won 5-0.

Tavernier is one of the best right-backs in the Scottish Premiership, and he has spoken highly of the Scotland Under-19 international.

Tavernier told HeraldScotland about Patterson: “I am delighted for Nathan. He is a great lad, a great lad to have in the changing room and he is like a sponge, he soaks everything in.

“He gets his head down and works hard and I believe he does have a big future at Rangers and a big future in football.

“He has got great attributes to his game and as long as he keeps working hard at his game, as he is now, he will have a very good future.”

Promising talent

Patterson is only just starting his career and has a long way to go, but the aforementioned comments from Tavernier are very encouraging indeed.

The Rangers youngster needs to make the most of the chances he will get this season and continue to impress manager Gerrard.

Praise for Alfredo Morelos

One player who impressed Gerrard on Thursday evening is Alfredo Morelos, who scored twice, and the Liverpool legend has raved about the Colombia international striker.

Gerrard told The Daily Record: “He is a fantastic goal scorer. His goals were different but they were two fantastic finishes. In the right place at the right time for the first one, which you don’t coach.

“You are born with that when you sniff those goals out and at the second goal, he shows his class and his touch.”

Meanwhile, The Sun has reported that Nathan Tormey is on trial at Rangers, with the 20-year-old winger having turned down the offer of a three-year contract by Arsenal earlier this summer.
