Manchester United have confirmed on their official Twitter account that new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be handed the number nine jersey for the coming season.
Ibrahimovic arrived at Old Trafford earlier in the summer after leaving Paris St Germain on a free transfer.
His arrival at United sees him once again working under former boss Jose Mourinho, who succeeded Louis van Gaal in the Old Trafford hotseat.
Fans are expecting big things from the veteran forward in the Premier League, having seen the 34-year-old establish himself as one of the most feared strikers in Europe.
There is expectation from United too, it seems, with the club handing Ibrahimovic the number nine jersey, which was previously worn by Anthony Martial.
The decision to hand Martial’s shirt number to a new signing is likely to spark speculation over Mourinho’s preferred leading striker.
If true, it seems harsh on the Frenchman, who scored 11 goals in 31 Premier League appearances last season and will now wear number 11 for the coming campaign.
