Mourinho is not happy about some of the criticism of the club following their move for Pogba.
Pogba completed a return to Manchester United on Tuesday
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has told MUTV that rival managers are jealous of the club’s big-money move for French playmaker Paul Pogba.
The 23-year-old confirmed his return to Old Trafford on Tuesday following a world-record £89 million transfer from Juventus, concluding a transfer saga that has rumbled on throughout the summer.
Unsurprisingly, such a large transfer fee has not gone unnoticed by United’s Premier League rivals. The Independent quoted Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as saying that the fee was “completely crazy”, while Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp told The Mirror that he would not spend that much on one player even if his funds were unlimited.
However, Mourinho has since hit back at his side’s critics, telling United’s official television channel, MUTV: “Sometimes in football, things happen and the club breaks the record, but this is only possible at clubs like Manchester United.
“When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because, to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world.”
And the former Chelsea boss is convinced United’s latest acquisition is capable of making a big impact on his return to Manchester.
“He has everything,” Mourinho continued. “What he has to learn now is how to play with us because I always say that in football you can be a super player, like he is, but a team is a team and you need to learn how to play in the team, and the team needs to learn how to play with you.”
United fans will hope Pogba can inspire them to a title charge this season, with the Red Devils set to begin their Premier League campaign with a trip to AFC Bournemouth on August 14th.
