Koscielny is set to be assessed ahead of his team’s opener with Liverpool
The Mirror has reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger may look to rush French defender Laurent Koscielny back into the first team fold, as he tries to address a worsening injury crisis.
Koscielny has only just returned to training following his extended break for his exertions at Euro 2016 with France.
But he will reportedly be assessed ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League opener with Liverpool on Sunday, with Wenger increasingly concerned by the prospect of heading into the game without a single senior centre-half.
Should Wenger decide against giving his countryman a start, it will leave him with youngsters Calum Chambers and Rob Holding, the latter of which was signed in the summer from League One outfit Bolton Wanderers.
While the likes of Jonny Evans and Shkodran Mustafi have both been linked with moves to the Emirates, Wenger could also turn to Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Debuchy, both of whom were expected to depart in this transfer window.
The Mirror claims defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin is another potential option for Wenger, whose side have lost just one Premier League home game to Liverpool since 2000.
