Smith spent two months on loan at Blackpool last season.
Newcastle United’s Liam Smith has completed a loan move to Crewe Alexandra
Crewe Alexandra have confirmed the six-month loan signing of Newcastle United youngster Liam Smith via their official website.
The 20-year-old will stay at the League One outfit until January 7th 2017 and has joined Steve Davis’ set-up with immediate effect.
Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is likely to be keeping an eye on Smith’s progress
A graduate of the Magpies academy, Smith earned his first professional contract on Tyneside in 2015, although he is yet to make a first team appearance at St James’ Park.
However, a two-month loan with Blackpool in March 2016 means he does have a taste of first team football, making four starts and four substitute appearances from the bench for the Tangerines.
Smith previously spent a loan spell at Blackpool, who are facing turbulent times
Smith, who is the third player to arrive at the club this summer, is set to begin training with his new teammates on Thursday, and will be available for the pre-season friendly with Wolves at Gresty Road on Friday.
Smith will hope to force his way into the Newcastle first team on his return
He has already managed to get some game time under his belt this summer, bagging an assist in the Newcastle under-21s’ 3-0 win over Bradford Park Avenue on Sunday.
