Brentford defender Maxime Colin has told the club’s official website that it may take 10 games to see where the club are in terms of their Championship rivals next season.

The Frenchman is currently enjoying his first full pre-season with the Bees, who have been in confident mood for most of the summer.

An impressive run of seven wins from their last nine games saw Brentford end their Championship campaign in ninth place last term, and Colin is determined to keep the momentum going ahead of their opener with Huddersfield Town on August 6th.

However, the right-back has played down any talk of a promotion challenge, adding that it will take time to see just how much progress the club has made.

He told the club’s official website: “We finished the last 10 matches really well last season and that gives us the trust for the new season.

“It might be too soon to say that we want to be promoted but we just want to work hard and see what happens when the season starts. We will know a bit more about where we are after the first ten games.

Colin is eyeing a big season with Brentford

“We have players who will bring strengths to our team and hopefully it will be a very good season for us.”

The 24-year-old, who signed from Anderlecht last summer, endured a difficult debut season in English football, with injuries restricting him to just 21 appearances.

But having enjoyed a full pre-season of preparation, including a training camp out in Germany, Colin says he cannot wait for the season to start.

He added: “I was out for three months and that was not easy for me. After that I had a problem with my groin so hopefully, this year, everything will be perfect.

“I have prepared well and I have no problems. All the medical staff have taken care of me and I did well in the first two friendlies. I hope that I can continue like this as this is a really important season for me. I hope that I can play a lot of games and a lot of good games.”
